pearl and glossy finish from ilford lab

My sentiments exactly, though for my 6x4's that go into an album I prefer gloss. Another advantage of the pearl paper is that it isn't so susceptible to getting fingerprints on it.

Photobox and Cropping: Am I Missing Something?

I've just received some prints back from Photobox and they've got borders where I didn't order them. They're a mixture of 6x4, 7x5 and 8x6 but they've all got a definite 4-5mm border. I've double checked my images that I uploaded and they're all the correct ratio (1800x1200 pixels, 2100x1500...

    Frames

Frame Express might be worth a look. I ordered a couple of frames from them at 8pm last Wednesday and they arrived 3pm on Friday. Excellent quality and I'll certainly use them again. BTW they used Parcelforce for delivery, so won't be affected by any Royal Mail strikes.

Must See Locations In The Lake District??

Another vote for a trip to Buttermere here. There are some great views from within 10 mins walk of the village car park. I took this one last month, and even then the autumnal colours were looking good-it should be fantastic now! Unfortunately it's not a great weather forecast for...

Show us yer film shots then!

Here are a couple from a trip to Buttermere in the Lake District a couple of weeks ago. 1. Buttermere Fell (I ran back to the Youth Hostel where we were staying to get my polarizer for this shot after it had been cloudy all day) 2. Buttermere and Fleetwith Pike (the light was...

They've got ya! It's like Royston Vasey ("You'll Never Leave") :gag:

Nice shot Gingerjon-it's got a timeless feel to it, and of particular interest to me (assuming that it's shot in Chesham) as I went to Chesham High School many moons ago, but haven't been back to the town in over 20 years.

    35mm Film Types?

Kodak Ektar 100 is another good one, though probably best suited to sunnier days.

    Action sampler

I've not used one myself, but it looks like it could be a bit of fun: http://shop.lomography.com/actionsampler/main Probably a bit of colour-shift from the outdated film will add to the Lomo "look". Why not give it a go & post the results?

    Finally Getting my Scanner

It's a great scanner-I'm really pleased with mine. The one thing that I did find was to ensure that the sharpening and grain reduction options are disabled in the scanner software as Elements 6 does a far better job. Apart from that, no worries. I'm even getting 20 year-old prints looking...

    Ilford Labs - Latest News

I just received a link to this. For those of us who can't/don't want to develop at home, it's good to see that Ilford are investing in new developing equipment and adding to their product range (B&W Photobooks look like a great idea). I guess that there must be a good number of people using...

Show us yer film shots then!

I've found that when scanning C41 B&W films I avoid the colour cast by setting the film type to Colour Neg and the image type to Greyscale (if I leave it at the default 24-bit colour I get exactly the same cast-it's the same as when getting prints on colour paper rather than proper B&W paper)...

    Some colour film?

Ektar 100 for daytime-nice and saturated. Alternatively, if the clouds come in Portra 400VC would be a good bet-very fine grain and better saturation than many other films of that speed. For night-time, another vote for Superia 1600, though it may be grainier than you'd like-it depends what...

Show us yer film shots then!

Thanks for looking. Unfortunately the Scott Kelby book doesn't cover scanning, but I've found it very useful just for getting my head around how to get the image looking "right". One of the major improvements to my scanned images was to switch off all sharpening in the scanner, and to stop...

Show us yer film shots then!

Here are a few from a recent trip to the Lake District. Nos. 1 and 2 were taken on Fuji Superia 200 with an Olympus Mju ii; 3 and 4 were taken on the awesome Kodak Ektar 100 with a Canon EOS 30V and 28-105mm USM Mkii (although there is a possibility that No. 4 was taken with the 17-40mm). All...
