I wouldn't give up on shooting through the plexiglass. You do need to find a clean spot and get your ens as close to the glass aspkossible to stop reflections All the images on my Flickr are taken Through the Plexi,it definitely gives you a lower straight on perspective.Hope this helps !! Anyone shot badminton?

Hi,Ive shot quite a lot over the years. Its never the easiest, and depennding on the Hall your shooting in,can be nearly impossible.Backgrounds are always a problem, and Ive found that if you can get up high and shoot down, you will get cleaner images. Obviously you will need to be shooting at...

    Ice Hockey Setup Advice

What you do need is an f2.8 lens and shoot in M (as suggested). Your cameras meter will be fooled by the reflective surface of the ice so add about 1 stop over. Take a test shot to confirm this. Set desired shutterspeed and then ISO to match. IIRC at Basingstoke this would give you something...

    Badminton shoot

    First ice hockey game

Matt, For a first attempt a lot of these are nicely exposed and sharp. Were you using your 70-200,as this might explain the depth of field on the last image if your were at the short end.

    First ice hockey game

Matt, Ive found that I have to use single point, otherwise, with all the colours around thye rink your going to have trouble. On the matter of some of the shots beingh soft, what shutter speed were you getting, because anything below 1/500 with senior moving players, will give you motion blur...

    First ice hockey game

Matt, Ive been photographing Ice Hockey for a number of years, and its probably the hardest form of photography, low changing light and fast unpredictable movement. As youve stated, the faster the lens the better, your 70-200 should be perfect. Exposure is the biggest problem,as the lighting...
