Have you thought about tomtom western europe, i use it a lot and it needs data only for tomtom live etc so not needed in general £43 for the app

Does the 1000d come with a video cable, so you can connect the camera to the tv to preview images etc, if it does mess around with the camera normally till it starts playing up, then plug in the cable and see if its the same on the tv
