Were these photographers actually doing anything wrong?...

No problem, 99.999etc% of photographers play by the rules they know that given a little patience and if the tide is higher enough the birds get pushed to you (at Hoylake, I tend to sit on the ramp at the Hoylake RNLI station or at the end of the road at Meols) so just sit tight have a natter and...

Anyone changed from SLR to M4/3 or Mirrorless

You could always dip your toe into the mirror less systems and stick with Canon that way you can use your existing lenses while gaining the benefit of the lighter body. Quite a few people are jumping ship and going for Sony (what model depends on your budget) but the 200-600 lens for wildlife is...

Were these photographers actually doing anything wrong?...

Been a problem of disturbance at Hoylake (the beach in the video) and along the Dee Estuary coast for sometime, hence why the wardens ask people not to get too close to the birds especially at high tide and generally stick to the promenade (same applies at Parkgate with the marsh), I have seen a...

    Baiting Bops

At all WWT sites such as Slimbridge you can only (or should only) feed the captive birds, yes a few wild birds enter the captive pens to take advantage of this free and easy meal, but in the pure wildlife/conservation areas the public are not allowed to feed the birds, only staff may put out...

What the most popular lens you guys used for bird images

Started off with a 50-500 Sigma job and the tried an old Sigma 300 2.8 with TC's (I did not like this set up at all) I then progressed to a Canon 400 f5.6 a great lens nice and sharpe and fast focusing , I now though use a Tamron 150-600 lens and it's a great bit of kit gives a bit of extra...

    Where do I find them?

The Goyt Valley just outside Buxton is a nice little spot with Redstart, Pied Flycatcher there during the Summer months it has the usual Kestrel and Buzzard and if you are lucky Short Eared Owl are in the area. The reservoir holds often Common Sandpiper and the moors have breeding Curlew along...

Tamron SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 DI IF VC USD

The shot was taken yesterday at Morfa Madryn, the Phalarope has been there for just over a week now. Its a great little spot and worth an explore, we didn't stay to long as we intended visiting another location before heading home. Tim.

    The Peak District - Buxton

The area around Stanton Moor is a good spot with a Stone Circle, Earl Grey Tower, around the old quarry are a few abandoned mill stones and the views are great from the top. It also has a decent pub in the village, there's a nice easy circular walk that takes in all of the spots I have mentioned...

Controversial Topic: What irks you about other photographers?

People who set up right in front of you thus meaning you can't get your shot now. Also when taking shots of birds people who talk too load so there is no chance of the bird coming within range for a shot or even being seen. Tim.

    Kingfisher secrets?

Been a birder which does a spot of photography as well I have heard of birders keeping Kingfisher sights to themselves due to a few photographers getting a little too close to the nesting area which caused the birds to leave that area totally. So a few either over keen or bad eggs has caused a...

    camrea strap help

You don't want to go any where near the Q-straps mine just fell apart and could have cost me quite a bit in repairs. Go with the black rapid they are worth paying the extra for.

How to carry 2 Cameras at once (airshows)

I would leave Q-strap alone had the thing come apart while out lucky for me the camera landed on something soft so I wasn't reduced to tears as it would have meant a new camera and lens other wise. Best to spend a few quid more and get something that will last. Tim.

    RSPB Marshside Southport

Hi Best bet is to firstly head for the main hide (I think it's called the Sand Grouse Hide) which is near the cross roads of Marine Drive and Marshside Road anyone there should be able to tell you what's around plus the log book is located here, wardens are only present on certain days, but if...

    Photography Ban on Glasgow Subway?

You would only have to ask the station staff and I am sure they would be quite happy for you to take what shots you want, as long as you didn't get in the way of the staff or travelling public (such as setting up tripods). Also no flash they affect the drivers and can look like they had been a...
