UWA lenses Full frame vs Crop

Thanks all (especially the sample shots), this is all very interesting to me and adds to my understanding of photography. Still much to learn. Cheers.

UWA lenses Full frame vs Crop

Interesting. So using a 50mm on a 1.5x crop camera to take a portrait from 12 feet away would give exactly the same result (forget DOF for a minute) as using a 75mm on a full frame camera from 12 feet away. The difference comes about when using a 50mm on both cameras but standing further...

UWA lenses Full frame vs Crop

As we all know the focal length of a lens doesn't change whether it is fitted to a crop sensor camera or a full frame camera (a 50mm is still a 50mm), what changes is the angle of view. So on a crop sensor camera (assume 1.5x) a 50mm lens gives an angle of view equivalent to 75mm lens fitted to...

Looking for a replacement for my Nikon 18-105 Lens

The Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 would be a great replacement for the shorter end but wouldn't reach as far as your 18-105mm.

    Nikon 14-24 for group shot?

Surely Lightroom or similar will correct the distortion? I've taken group shots in the past with my 10-24mm (On DX) and they've come out well.

    d7100

As Ivan says it is a DX camera which means the crop factor is 1.5 The 1.3 crop mode is in addition to the 1.5 crop so in reality it makes the overall crop factor roughly equivalent to 2 (1.5 * 1.3 = 1.95).

    Dropped my Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Help!

If it helps Grays of Westminster had new 70-300 VRs for £385 when I bought one a few weeks back. They also had some fully warrantied second hand ones. As far as I see, it's either replace like for like or upgrade to the 70-200 (f4 or f2.8 versions), anything else would be a downgrade.

    Focusing D5100

This isn't quite true. There are two distinct things here, AF Mode and AF Area Mode: The switch of AF Mode between AF-S and AF-C is nothing to do with focus points. In AF-S mode, the camera will focus when you half press the shutter and will not refocus until you release and re-press, even...
