Just a little caveat to the lens issues... I wholeheartedly agree to get the very best out of the D800 quality glass excels, however I was out with my lad the other week waiting for Foxes and saw this sunset brewing as we waited... Not having the correct lens with me I pinched my sons Sigma...

Now 6 weeks in and enjoying the D800 but as i said before a little bit of a learning curve... certainly for my eyes shooting at iso 6900 and above which with my Wildlife I often have to do the D3s wins hands down and from what I see it is well above 1/2 stop difference but tbo that matters...

I'd say its about the same as the D3 possibly a tad better, certainly not D3s performance and certainly not better :) Yes it does give you 1.5x in DX mode.

Hmmm well there you go, add one more to that list :) add blinking green light occasionally Add my Pixel TW282 remote which I'm assured with Pixel is compatible, with it plugged in i cannot access live view or review an image and it forces the autofocus to be constantly on and constantly...

16gb Exreme 60mb Sandisk Works fine on a D300s and my lads D70.... I have to say imho the firmware is buggy to say the least.

Well you can add me into the equation, just goosed a memory card Grrr works in other cameras but not the D800 it seems :(

Edit just reread your comments, I'm intrigued now as to 3d tracking on the D800 as I've never ever got on with it on my D3s

Hi all just pressed the button on a D800 and have been doing some searches on third party grips, I've done a search and its not thrown up too much, so to save me going brain dead searching this entire thread, anyone have any recommendations..... The DSTE unit with high power battery looks good...

Hi Peter and there lie's the problem, The "is it worth it" question. It may not be to some and it may be to others depending how deep you get and how anal you become about getting the very best out of a given lens... I've no experience of the Sigma's OS version but had for some time a Sigma...
