Half submerged in a block of ice?

Bought a copy from ebay and everytime I got it out the battery had died and I had to go find a replacement. Found a nikon one for a tenner somewhere and never regretted it, still has the original battery in it after a year and never misses a shot.

Are the 2 that can't be seen 16 bit images rather than 8bit? I think it's something like Image>mode in Photoshop.
