Canon 85mm f/1.2L II - does anyone got one?

I had the F1.2 for about 5 years and used it fairly regularly before changing. Typically use the F1.4 wide open and rarely over F2. Just find it easier to use really. I haven't needed to calibrate and the images I have taken (when I get it right) are pretty much pin sharp with a very similar...

Canon 85mm f/1.2L II - does anyone got one?

I traded mine in and got the Canon 85mm f1.4 instead. It's now one of my favourite lenses, the 135mm f2 being the other. The faster focusing on the 1.4 just suited me better than the 1.2II.

    My Gigapixel Moon

But that's clearly faked as there's no stars in the background, the same way as the moon landing was faked! I read about it on the internet so it must be true! Seriously though, great picture, I love seeing close-ups of the moon with that sort of detail.

Can you claim to be a great photographer when using modern high tech gear ?

For me its not about the art itself that gets people annoyed but the critique of art and the patronising approach that can be portrayed to those who are accused of not being able to understand art as they've not studied it, or the exponents of the art being discussed. It seems some have to...

Adobe will not support older o/s in new CC

I guess the problem for Adobe is the more functionality they add in, or the more they potentially optimise the solution, the harder it is to try and make it backwards compatible with older operating systems. They wont want to lose customers but need to make the decision from a commercial aspect...

    Beginner The daftest of questions...

The way I do it is to set my ISO (ideally as low as possible so lets assume 100), then set my f-stop - lets assume f11 and then expose as per the camera suggestion at that point for shutter speed. Your metering mode will have an affect. on this. As you're presumably using a tripod the length of...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I've always had good quotes from them and have sold a number of lenses to them and a couple of cameras in the past. The longest I have waited in the past around a week to hear back, but just accepted at the time that that was how long it took. They've always given me the figure quoted based on...

Wex or MPB for selling kit?

I've had great experience with MPB. Figures I've been offered by Wex haven't been worth considering, including on trade-ins for nearly new equipment I'd bought direct from them.

    Are MPB taking the P*ss

I've used them on a number of occasions and once had similar but it was arguably justified. I have also had them come back to me and pay me above what we agreed as the lens I sent was a higher spec than I thought which was unexpected. I have therefore found them very honest and good to deal with.

    Best Tripod

I bought one of these last month and a fantastic tripod. I like the way a decent bag and spiked feet are included as standard as well which isn't the case for all.

What will be your next photography related purchase? Or what photography gear do you lust after?

I'm keen on a Sigma 14 1.8mm - but even keener to see if the price comes down a bit first!

    Favourite lens

Canon 135mm f2 and Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART for me.

    £1,000 per day 1-to-1 tuition

For a top-end photographer like Damien to impart his knowledge should be up to him in regards the value he places on that information. It is then up to the market to decide if it's worth paying for or not. Such knowledge could lead to some obtaining a very good ROI if they use it well. I went on...

    Wix?

I'm just moving away from Wix to Squarespace as Wix still doesn't appear to be mobile friendly. This borders on the unbelievable in the web world today, especially as Google takes notice of responsive sites. Other than that, I found it easy to use and set something up quickly, but then so far...
