Somerset Levels nature reserves info wanted

Hi all Planning to visit Somerset Levels nature reserves Shapwick Heath (RSPB) and Westhay Moor (Somerset Wildlife Trust) sometime soon - I haven't been there for many years (Westhay Moor wasn't even a nature reserve then....) Can anyone offer any info on what the various hides are like...

    Locations with Ramsons/Wild Garlic

Hi all Ramsons/Wild Garlic will be flowering soon and I'm looking for a woodland location with extensive covering of this which is within about 40 miles of Bournemouth (where I live) I already know of a few sites in this area but have yet to find what I want - namely: extensive and dense...

Moorhen through the glass darkly - one-way windows in hides

Hi all At Blashford a couple of days ago and had to have a go shooting through the hated one-way windows when I saw this Moorhen atop a Reedmace head, pulling at the fluffy seeds: Hilarious watching it trying to balance up there! I was laughing so much I had to use VR (Vibration...

Nature Photography and the 'Digital Debate'

Hi again Rich - may be my fault because I set it going in two different sub-forums (well, I'm still new here ) Perhaps part of me is hoping that, because 'everyone' is doing it, it will justify doing it myself.... :D ;) Geoff

I am looking for a favour please

Rich - I would say you've done a really good job of fulfilling your requirements! - your mono version looks well retouched but not over-retouched. Speaking with my girlfriend (who is a woman ) she agrees that an 'over-done' retouch job amounting to a glamour makeover may possibly be taken...

Nature Photography and the 'Digital Debate'

Hi Mark - absolutely! Fair enough  Should you not declare it anyway? for those who don't ask? Ah, now you're just being silly! :nono: ;) Cheers Geoff

Nature Photography and the 'Digital Debate'

Hi Gary - thanks for your considered response - you've slightly contradicted yourself there regarding composition and cropping - some single images may work well by cropping to both horizontal and vertical, giving two entirely different-looking images compositionally. I guess you mean the actual...

Nature Photography and the 'Digital Debate'

Hi James - thanks for response Re photo competitions - naturally the rules should be followed! In 2009 the prestigious international 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' competition winning image - a 'wild' wolf jumping over a picturesque wood gate - was subsequently deduced to be of a captive...

    Spinning the Polarising Filter

It's more to do with zoom lenses - with some, the front of the lens rotates as you zoom in and out to change compsosition, which means having to re-rotate the polarizer each time - not a huge problem, too much fuss is made about it  but just another thing to remember I guess, though it...

    any stacking rules?

Yes, should be easy to do a quick test - I'd have thought that best order would be - lens/1.4x/2x/body - if they physically mate ok in that order Geoff

Features I'd like to see in a digital SLR.

Well, until as and when the mirrorless dslr coms about, I'd just like a camera that's quieter! :| great shooting at 8fps but sounds like a machine-gun - terrible when several photographers shooting together :| Geoff
