i hope so :P thanks for the info guess, guess il grab a 700 and some odd's and sod's when i order it and have a play around and see what i can do with it on the camera to start with and grab a 3rd party one later on.

yeah a mate told me about the strobist's blog been leafing through it but will be having a good read once i get the flash to actually get some hands on experience. as for getting a 3rd party for off camera and using the 700 on that's basically what i was thinking. just wanted to see if anyone...

im guessing il be using it both ways and experimenting with it a bit. i know il need a commander unit though for using it off camera as the 5100 doesnt have it built in.

basically looking at my first flash iv been looking at the sb700 and just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for a 3rd party (cheaper option) that would do just as well as the nikon, or would the nikon be a better option as my first and buy 3rd party ones as i go along for extra lighting...
