I recently had problems with the flash firing erratically on my d700. It appears to be a fairly common problem if you Google.
Eventually it misfired all the time and nearly burnt the flash out...
I had to return it to Nikon for a hot shoe replacement at a cost of £170

The D300s is my favourite, I also have a D300 and a D90 as a backup. The dual card slots of the D300s are hard to beat.
When the price drops just before the D400 (?) come out, I will snaffle another one at a decent price :-)
In my experience Eneloops are the best. Don't be put off by the 2000mah rating they last forever, not only that they hold their charge in the bag if they are not used. They have saved the shoot on many an occasion. Well worth the money.
