I also have this backpack and have found it very useful, admittedly the camera compartment isn't large but I have also been using the zipped part behind the water/tripod net to hold another lens in a padded lens pouch for more flexibility. There is also a dedicated strap just to hold your camera...
It could also be your memory card reader, I thought I had a duff memory card because it produced pictures like yours until I changed the reader and they were all fine again, try all possibilities!
I also have that tripod and I am very happy with it, its survived 3 longhaul plane journeys and its light enough to go trekking up hills with! I also had a problem with the rubber ring on the large knob snapping (I'm guessing due to temp changes from a 38*C country to a very cold plane cargo...
