Well, thanks for the input, and I do recognize that equipment is just stuff, what is needed is knowledge and skill, with a good dose of artistic vision to get the right pic and to learn how to manage the light (created or captured).
Nevertheless I must confess to being a bit of a gizmo junkie...
That's good to know gadgeteer - love your tag - I'm afraid this gadget getting game is rather addictive. Playing with my Yongnuo time lapse gadget today, trying to document laying a new vinyl plank floor. But it is not working like I think it is supposed to work. But hope to have some fun...
Question for you 622 users.
If I put a 622 onto my D5100 and the receiver on my SB700 - can my SB700 still act as a Master in Nikon's CLS system and control the Metz 58 as a slave to the SB 700. Or do I need to get anther receiver for the 58?
I am also looking at the YN-622N-TX which could...
Been thinking of getting a flash bracket to raise my flash off of my camera.
I read that being able to flip the flash or rotate the camera is a good idea so that the flash is on top of the camera regardless of orientation.
I also have read that all you need to do is always shoot landscape...
Thanks for the link Hoppy - lots to read, but when I searched for Metz I found ONE reference. But I did see that it is listed as a Class I compliance in that Cliveboy's manual. It does more than my camera can manage (found that the D5100 does not do HSS - or that's my current understanding)...
Hmmm, this is interesting, from Flash Havoc: http://flashhavoc.com/yn-622n-nikon-ittl-trigger-full-details/

Hi Peter,
The YN-560EX are single firing pin only (on the flash foot), so connected to anything via the foot they will only operate as...
Looking good - this one has a user talk about the Metz 58 AF-1 (I'm hoping that if it worked for the first version it should also work for the second but take nothing for granted in this business.)

search for "Metz" as that...
Well Mr Fong won't be sailing his Yacht too far on my $19. I like my new Metz but it did not include any diffusers or coloured filters or any other light modifiers so I thought this one would give me options for adding colour to my shots. I do wonder how come some products like Gary Fong stuff...
I'm trying to find success stores on line about using this flash and the 622 on a Nikon - especially a D5100 (or at least a camera close in kind).
So far I've found at least one website where the poster had issues. (I use Google Translator as this is not an english site)...
I'm thinking of this cord to give a little range to my on camera flash more so than more distant remote flashes.
The 622n seems to come in at about $100 for the pair, $175 for a set of four. My thinking is that I will use those when I get a third flash unit (YN 560 ex or 565 ex). Appreciate...
I have a D5100, an SB 700 and Metz 58 AF2. I use Nikon's Commander CLS system to trigger the off camera flash.
I'm thinking of getting a TTL Cord so that my on-camera flash could be positioned off the camera probably on extension arm attached to the camera - just want a little distance away...
Looked long and hard at cheaper Chinese flashes, Yongnuo and the Voeloon (which I learned is Oloong) and others. Consider the cost with radio triggers by Yongnuo instead of the CLS wireless system. But decided to go for German engineering and bought a Metz 58 AF-2. Picked it up for $292 CDN...
I see it on Vistek.ca website (canadian retailer) and am thinking about it.
I think it is the same as the Oloong SP 690 II (which has a lot more reviews)...
