Image quality won't be massively different but I think ISO performance would be much better on a D5100 or D3100. I wouldn't bother upgrading, spend the money on glass! :cool:

17-50 on a crop is the same as 28-75 on FF so I'd say go for the 17-50 (non VC) if you have a crop camera (which you do)

Well I'm 16 and I have a social life too but I've edited hundreds of raw pictures at a time. I really cannot recommend Lightroom enough. Processing most of my pictures involves me clicking on one of my presets and maybe taking a few seconds to fine tune or crop a picture. About 40% of a batch...

I keep all of them on my main hard drive and back them up on an external drive! I can always re-edit my photos if I lose the jpg's!

Just go on HotUKDeals and search for SDHC, they usually show the cheapest ones! I picked up a Class 10 8GB card for £7.70 on amazon marketplace (via MyMemory)

Unfortunately I'm stuck with the pretty awful screen on the D3100 so quite a few of my images require some kind of editing. I usually like the colours to 'pop' too so a quick pass through lightroom is a must!

There's nothing wrong with HDR 'done right'. It's the heavily processed images that look like a bad computer render that give it a bad name!

agree, Jessops will tell you anything to get you to buy from them! As mentioned already, the non-VC version is rated higher than the VC version.

I had a play with a friend's 50 AF 1.8 and I really couldn't stand manual focus, all my pictures came out slightly OOF. :( :gag: Not a fan or Canon's ergonomics!

I've seen some fantastic images from the Canon 85mm 1.8 and I know that it's rated pretty highly. Sadly I'm a Nikon user and I can't seem to find an equivalent nikon lens that will focus on my D3100. The only nikon option is the 85mm AF-S f/1.4G but that costs a fortune! So does a Nikon version...
