    Nikon FX lens options

Sigma 24-105 f/4 is very nice if you don't mind a big heavy lens. It is very sharp at 85mm and is good throughout the rest of the range. Tamron 35 1.4 is slightly better than the Sigma, but bigger and heavier. Nikon 24mm f/1.8 is nice to. The Nikon 16-35 f/4 does everything very well. It...

Focus - lens and body possibly incompatible?

For AF tuning, if you have back button focus enabled and shutter button focus disabled this works. I do the following: From a fixed position (a door frame works) autofocus using live view to a set point. Make sure the focus box goes green. Then switch to optical viewfinder and half press the...

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

Go onto an individual camera, select measurements, select colour response. Just under the 4 graphs there is Sensitivity Metamerism Index. Their tests say they are to ISO 17321, which you could look up.

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

Dxomark has a colour accuracy score under each camera's measurements. The highest score I've seen is the magnificent Canon 1000D, which scores 88. Most other cameras are in the 75-80 range. The pictures on the back of the camera's cheap screen are terrible but the files are great. This is...

The price increase on CFexpress Cards WOW!!!

SD cards to. They have pretty much doubled in price. A 128GB basic SanDisk 180mb/s was £17 and dropping as it became obsolete, now they are twice that. In the long run memory production will ramp up. If the IA bubble bursts there will probably be over supply. So don't buy it now unless you need it.

Product shot - Shot at f9 50mm - Still not sharp in background

As soon as you use a shorter focal length and crop in, the DOF changes.

Product shot - Shot at f9 50mm - Still not sharp in background

Yeah but for the same framing and aperture, DOF at the subject is pretty much the same no matter what focal length you use (>35mm, this doesn't work on wide angles). The reduction in DOF from a longer focal length gets cancelled out by the increase in DOF as you move away to make the same...

What 24 mm lens for a Nikon D70s

If you want 35 mm equivalent on a faster lens then the 24 f/2.8 D is okay. But for similar money you could get a 17-50 Tamron or Sigma f/2.8 zoom. The 20mm f/2.8 D is meant to be better than the 24. The Nikon f/1.8 wide primes are very good but around £300 each used. Ancient Mariner's...

    Today's equivalents....

D7200 still has one of the best APSC sensors you can get. Great performance in bright light and good at low light. In terms of functionality it is mostly equivalent to a APSC D750 (the video is not as good).

    Today's equivalents....

D500 is a semi-pro body. Z8 might be nearer equivalent.

    Wanting to upgrade slightly

D70s is a great little camera. If you want bright colours, set it for colour mode 3. Use mode 1 for people . You might want to get a flash as it is not great in low light. The SB-800 flash is probably best value used.
