Just ordered me a Z7 ii with a 28-70 f4 lens and the FTZII adaptor. Should be a nice step up from my D750. Now have to wait for some sun!

Can you wait... the Nikon Z6 with 24-70 and FTZ adaptor for your old lenses. Or at least wait and try one.

In terms of electronics ... I always think of "character" as meaning something which isn't perfect and even has some flaws, but is a pleasure to use / listen to / look at. Its the difference (to my mind) between photography as a science and photography as an art.
