What about a canon 40d? Not as pricey as the 60d so you can buy a couple of good lenses but still very good and a step up from the 550d.

I had an olympus e-620 and just switched to a canon 40d, was stuck between the 500d and the 40d, but glad i chose the 40d as they're much less limited as its not as much of a 'consumer' range camera.
