Like the shot as a whole bg could be a distraction but i think it adds to the shot :-)

Thanks folks, i agree the bg does need sorted all i had was a old reflector and i was on the laptop so i will tidy it up once i get to the pc with the mouse and tablet

Dont want to confuse you any more but id recommend getting at least one flash with ettl and then if you ever need to stick a flash on camera for a quick shot youll have that option, i can recommend the 565 as ive got one and its a great flash for the money :-)

Why not get her a phone and a camera with a £150 budget you could get her a £50 point n shoot and a phone or go 2nd hand for the phone and get her a better camera. As for the choice of phone id definitely go android over windows.

Try to aim for double the lens length as your shutter speed ie @200mm shutter speed of 1/400 if its @70mm then 1/150 etc

Its sounding like camera shake as your zoomed in closer the slightest movement will be exagerated especially if its a 70-200 or similar
