It's for home use - nothing commercial. He doesn't want the faff of a laptop or any sort of PC, but wondered if there was anything out there that provided limited editing options. I think anything over £150 would be expensive on a pensioner's income... :)

I've just bought a 2nd hand 500mm F4 lens which is great, but have discovered that my 50D doesn't fire up the IS on it. Fortunately, I have a 40D, which does, so I'm not stuck. Has anyone else had any similar problems with their kit? I'm assuming the 100-400mm lens has a different IS set...

If the IQ from the 50D was worse than the 40D, I'd have the latter on my lens, and the 50D in my bag as a back up. I haven't. The 40D is the back up camera...

ads has summed it up well. I have both the 40D and 50D. Bought the latter when Jessops couldn't source me another 40D when its shutter failed, and was in for repair. Screen is much better on the 50D and the ISO range, esp the auto mode is more flexible. Other than that, no, I'd say it...

Originally I thought of suggesting bird portraits to show this, but that would be too restrictive in terms of results and equipment, so I've opted for just: Behaviour and character. So many shots of birds look lovely and we say "Aww pretty" but they don't actually show you anything about...
