    Which filter system?

IMHO just go with the Lee system. You can get a starter kit, as I did, which includes the mount, 0.6 and 0.9 ND and 0.6 ND grad hard which I would say are the most commonly required ND filters. I just want to get hold of a big stopper now!!

    Which filter for smooth water?

Ed Bray has been extremely helpful on TP in the past, as well as contributing with articles in the tutorials section, particularly the one on exposure. My two peneth is he was having a bad day, but to be fair the original question from the OP was somewhat 'open to interpretation', despite the...

    Which filter for smooth water?

This is probably aimed more at EdBray than anyone else (I just want to be sure I understand what he is saying): Are you saying there will be an exposure for the water which lies between a 'normal' exposure (no filters used, entire scene a reasonable exposure, but water static and frozen), and...

    First Light Modifier And Stand

Brilliant, thanks Hoppy. When I say 'still life' I'm meaning anything static, for example a bowl of fruit, an ornament, etc etc just to get me started and practicing. I do have a couple of guitars to sell soon and I would like to take some photos which show them as well as possible for the...

    First Light Modifier And Stand

I wasn't sure whether or not to ask this in Beginners or in the Lighting section, but since I think it is a beginner question I plumped for here :) I have a flashgun and a pocket wizard kit, and decided it's about time I learnt how to use them!! I would like to get my first stand, and my...

    Canon Lens Stocks

Just responding in kind to some pointless and useless posts that the OP recently added to one of my threads. Have a look at the general sarcastic and unhelpful tone of posts by the OP on TP - YWSWIM

You need a lens hood? Wow, I would have thought your huge ego and enormous attitude problem would have done that job for you.

    Thumbs Up For Spider Pro

I recently bought a used Spider Pro system from TP classifieds and finally got the opportunity to use it yesterday for the first time. I spend about five hours walking around a motorbike show with a 1Ds II and 24-105L attached. I found it much more comfortable than having the camera on a neck...

Help choosing which equipment to take on holiday

The 24-105 is definately 'in'. I would like to take the Zeiss 21 as experience from previous trips (before I got interested in photography I might add) says there will most likely be some stunning scenery, but I am also conscious that this is really a driving trip, not a photography trip...

Help choosing which equipment to take on holiday

I know exactly why I bought my lenses and also what they are for. Normally I would take them all with me and wouldn't have asked my original question as I would be able to choose the right one for whatever I wanted to achieve at the time. However, as already explained, I cannot take them all...

Help choosing which equipment to take on holiday

Not quite as sexy as you guessed methinks - just my little plastic Lotus Elise (which I absolutley love to bits). We were supposed to do this run last year to mark mine and my wife's 40th birthdays but for various reasons it didn't happen, so we are doing it this year. It's just something I...
