    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I had the pleasure of using the Z 20mm f1.8 S for over a month in Kenya (courtesy of Nikon UK) and was totally smitten by it. Well constructed, sharp and little to no distortions. Have added to my list to Santa...

    Internal CCTV

As I travel frequently, I’m looking to install some security cameras, so I'm hoping for some suggestions. My criteria:- - motion-triggered and calls my phone - needn’t be super discreet, but preferably not too bulky - doesn’t require a monthly subscription - can be recorded to cloud storage of...

Need some advice - what's a reasonably good colour printer

Not sure if it’s of any help to you, Bill, but I’ve been a lifelong Epson user. My current 10-year-old 3880 is still going strong after 3k+ photo prints. I print A4 to A2.

Using an iPhone to view and image capture [Nikon Z8/9]

Does anyone know how I can do this? The connection between the two devices must be made with a cable to ensure a reliable connection at all times. TIA

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I don’t think you can compare a full-frame to a M43 as the two systems are so different. The main thing is that you’ve found something that works for you. As with all systems, there’ll always be strengths and compromises; it's a question of what aspects/features are more important to you and...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

Just for information, it is almost impossible to illustrate sharpness online unless the images are posted or cropped at 100%. Although I have never used the 100-400mm, the reviews suggest that it is a decent lens.

Just to add… the 600 is one of the sharpest lenses I’ve used in a while, but its use will be limited to me. I think if I shoot more small avian species, then that would be my choice of weapon. Below is a 100% crop with the 600, wide open at f4, ISO2200.

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

No, I didn't. Believe it or not, I prefer something shorter, for flexibility and travel. I’m hoping that they’ll bring out a 300/2.8 with a built-in 1.4, and I will travel with a 2x TC - super compact but covers a very nice range. I have also written a bit about my experience with the 600/4, here.

    Over processed images

Another factor that plays a role is the aesthetic of an image. In the example below, the original unedited image is on the left, while the right was processed to my personal preference. To my eyes, it is more pleasing, but it may be ‘unnatural’ to others.

I wrote a mini user review a while back on the 400/2.8 here in case of interest.

    Over processed images

Photography can be a craft or an art form. The latter allows for many interpretations. What is okay for one person may be over-processed for another. At the end of the day, as a hobby, it's to be enjoyed by all. But if you seek 'proper' critiques, then one needs to be open-minded enough to...

Mac mini 4 pro- noisy / high temps?

Not sure what the reviewers used the Mac for but I think you’d need to be doing something pretty significant in LR/PS to get the fan going. I use the Studio and have never heard the fan when using image processing software. I use it to edit short 4k videos. Again, never comes on.

    Apple Thunderbolt Display 27"

I tried using another half-decent, non-Apple 27” 4k monitor a while back and to my eyes, it was not to the performance of the Apple Studio Display. I too, had a 27” 5k iMac and if you’re used to this, I think the older Thunderbolt Display or a lesser make monitor will be hard to get used to...

Cloning other than dust spots ie. the removal of distracting elements such as cables, fencing etc. is not acceptable. Cropping these out however, is allowed.
