Pity the weather wasn't up to much. Shot with a Samyang 14mm f/2.8.
Just handed my D300 on to my 18 year old as he needed a decent camera for Uni, still a great bit of kit. Also still shooting with an equally venerable D3 when I need speed over resolution/dynamic range [D800 remains my weapon of choice for most things].
Currently playing with Luminar 3. I'm liking the editor element of the software, but haven't really got around to using any DAM tools within it yet. I think there's a free trial but it was only £45 with a voucher so it seemed churlish not to try. DxO can give good results but there's no...
An old page, but a useful interactive demonstration of compression showing file size vs quality: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality
I personally usually export at a quality of 80 most of the time which seems about the point where compression artifacts are mostly neglible.
Moon Shot by Ben Goddard, on Flickr
The moon was super bright last night so grabbed my D800 to try out my 200-500 with a TC-14E II for the first time. Surprising still just how much reach you need for the moon, as even this was a pretty close crop [2048px square].
Dynamic range? The dynamic range on the D800 is great, I don't know personally how it compares to the D600, but it's a significant improvement over my old D3/D300 [not surprising I guess].
