Old Nikon D70 dying. Corrupting / not recognising memory cards

My Nikon D70 has for a while now been struggling to recognise CF cards with FOR, CHA and similar errors. Remove and insert a few times and it reads it right and can shoot okay. Now it's regularly corrupting files or the whole card. Think the card slot is dying. Tried various cards, old and new...

Hmm, time to dump flickr and finally build my own website?

Instagram gets me a lot of interactions, but then half of those are robots, and as I mentioned the quality is terrible aside from viewing on a mobile screen.

    Win XP USB Won't Boot

This laptop isn't going to be connected to the Internet then and won't be installing anything else, putting discs / USB sticks in the thing from other sources, etc? It's dead OS, unsupported, no patches and security fixes and very much at risk using it. Except if you have one of the embedded...

Is DSLR about to die off?

One of the beauties of (D)SLR is the ability to keep and use lenses and decades old, even if just in manual mode if the camera doesn't support AF on some of the old ones (plus still able to use some old manual focus lenses), particularly with Nikon F mount. Mirrorless Z series Nikon is forcing...

    Google Drive/Docs or OneDrive

I've not had problems uploading odd file types. From what I can tell there's no restriction on file types, though there is with SharePoint which would affect OneDrive for Business if storing to SharePoint folders, depending how the organisation sets up the rules.

Hmm, time to dump flickr and finally build my own website?

The problem I see is what SmugMug are trying to restore is already lost. The community went ages ago and the majority of stuff is spam requests to add to another group no one will look at and no constructive comments other than spambot "wow" stuff similar to Instagram. Other than that it's a...

    Google Drive/Docs or OneDrive

Office 365 subscription comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage and all the Office applications installable on multiple devices, online access to the documents, and a family subscription includes 6 users now for £6.60/mth or £5 for personal sub. No brainer if you want the office software especially.

Sensor spec on old D70, not shifting

Definitely the "sensor". Not only can I see it regardless of lens attached but I can also see the spot with the naked eye on the sensor, and yes I know it's really the low pass filter ;) . It's just easier in my mind to refer to it as the sensor :) (either way the problem is the same). Could...

Sensor spec on old D70, not shifting

I've had dust specs on the sensor often on my old Nikon D70, and I use Eclipse fluid with sensor cleaning tool and cloth things with no problem in the past. However I've got one now that's sizeable and so far no amount of cleaning is shifting it. I've tried pressing a little harder but no luck...

Any cyclists - Bike lights recommendations?

Have to admit I have those kinds of lights as my night riding is off road MTB and I do of course need enough to light the place up like it's daylight and burn through the forest :D (I think combined my front lights work out at 6000 lumens. And that's genuine lumens, not Chinese ebay lumens which...

Any cyclists - Bike lights recommendations?

On the Cree stuff, be careful as many are MTB lights and the many thousand lumen ones can be over the top for the road. They can be dazzling for oncoming traffic as they have no deflection and may be more focused than a typical car light. Though a lot of LED bike lights, road or otherwise, don't...

    Social Networking

Facebook is more the sort of place for family & friends. I don't usually accept friend requests from people I don't know on there. There's an option to 'follow' people but I don't post much public stuff there that would be of any interest. Google+ and Twitter I'd say are the places you want to...

    D7000 or D7100?

I'm in much the same boat, having held on to the trusty D70 for a very long time. A great camera, though I do spend a fair bit of time tweaking after to get the levels right. I rarely get what I want out of camera. An upgrade that's more likely to give me deep contrasts I like would be good...

Fancy a Fun Challenge? Join in and Sign Up

Class :D Bit like the ones who kept trying to move us from an 'unofficial' position to watch the olympic road race (in the ticketed area so we were all paid up to be there). "can't stay here, have to move. It's health and safety". We were clearly well out of the way of the road however and...
