Well have requested for it to be collected from Amazon as the other lenses work perfectly. New one being sent out.

I'm going to return the lens as its brand new so nothing should be wrong with it.

The switch is set to A and the lens won't workonthe D40 as VR lens I think it must be faulty as other 3 lenses work fine on the body

I have purchased new D7000 with four new lenses and I seem to be having an issue with the AF-S NIkkor 18-55mm 3:5-5:6G VR DX as this will not auto focus with the body. I have no issues with the other lenses I have also tried the same lens I have for my D40 without the VR and this seems to auto...

Great thanks I have always liked the D7000 so I shall go with that one with some new lenses

So would you suggest the D3200 then ...I am upgrading from D40 and want to make sure I get the best camera and not to have to upgrade for a few years....
