It looks like it's a toss up between the 100-400 MkII and the 300 f2.8! I'm leaning towards the 100-400... As is my wallet! I hope you get to go to an airshow soon :)

I've just picked up my second 60D. I got it from RichmondCameras for £300. Great price... Worth checking eBay for low shutter count models. As always, I will always recommend the nifty fifty for the bag to compliment it :D

I don't have experience with that lens, but you're trying to cover a huge focal length when it might not be necessary? For motorsport, I tend to use a 70-200 F2.8, but I suppose there are some scenarios where you may need a larger focal length. If I were you, I would look to hire a good/fast...
