Im suprised its so bad at 12. I have a sigma 10-20 and although its bad at 10 its fine by 12-14ish.

It wont be 'pit stop less'. There just wont be any fuel going in, everyone will start with full tanks. There will still be tire changes. Its quite a problem for the tire maker, they have to make them work with a very heavy car (so, strong sidewalls) and a very light car as well.
