    Sigma 150-500 steep learning curve!

Mad Badger, Are you going to show some of the shots you've taken with your new lens. I have a 450D and am thinking about this lens so would like to see what this combo can produce.

    Metering modes ( no photo)

I tend to use spot metering. But it has got me thinking. I use manual mode so what is the metering doing, if anything? Am I way off the point here? Is this only used when you are in Tv or Av mode to set the other parameter you have asked the camera to sort out? Sits back and waits to be...

    100-400mm Tips

Making it heavy would take some of the appeal of this lens being suitable for hand held shot. Thanks for the tips too, can’t wait to get out there and try it.

    100-400mm Tips

I would guess with the upgraded IS and constant f4 would come with a significant price increase too :'(

    100-400mm Tips

Thanks for the explanation Andy. That does make sense now. I have trying to justify the expense of this lens for a while, so I thought the only way to try it out was to hire one, as I don't know anyone that has one I can borrow. My only fear it I will have to buy one the day I sent the...

    100-400mm Tips

Thanks Richard I was thinking about that fact that this is a 10 year old lens now. Will Canon be looking at replacing or upgrading this anytime soon? Or is it a case of it 'aint broke so don't fix it?

    100-400mm Tips

Some useful tips there, thanks. I expect I will be using the tripod for some of my shots so I'll turn the IS off (still don't fully understand why this is necessary!), but mostly handheld, so I guess I will be testing the ISO capabilities of my camera if the sun doesn't come out!!!

    Recommendations, 55-200mm or 300mm

I have been using the 55-250mm on my 450d and been impressed with the results, considering I am still new and don't get to play as much as I like with my camera. Most of the shots in my galleries have been taken with this lens.

    100-400mm Tips

Thanks Andrewc. In what why is the IS not as good as my 55-250?

    100-400mm Tips

I am hiring a 100-400mm from Lensforhire.co.uk for a trip to Scotland next week. This is my first try of using L glass and I am looking forward to it. Anyone got any tips on how to get the best out of this lens? I will be using it on my 450d. Thanks, CC

    Bird photography competition - Discussion

This sounds like a great idea. I would have a go, providing I have the time. I think setting a 2 week limit would be a good idea. Should really generate some interesting shots (and no doubt a very average one from me!)

    Calling all Canon 450d Users!!

I am loving my 450D. I currently have the kit lens and the 55-250 IS which is great. But I am getting into bird photography so thinking I need to extra length. Have been looking at the Sigma 150-500. Anyone tried one of these on a 450D?

sea eagle spotted on the solway

Would be great to see it. And with it being so big, I might not have to do such a large crop with my shots!
