Patiance and practice work for me, and getting to know your camera in and out, learn how to change the settings of your camera by the type of shot your trying to take, weather conditions, light conditions etc
The shot does look a little hazey, you could of tried with a tripod and done something along the HDR lines? Try putting this shot into Photoshop or a similar program and check your white balance settings
