    D7000 stock

The 7000 is much more easily controlled due to the wealth of buttons. The 5100 requires you to go into menus to change things which is fine until you start becoming more adventurous with your photography. This is exactly what I found with my D5000, hence the move to the 7k.

D7000 focus issues with sample images. Please help?

I've fine tuned all my lenses on my D7000 - like you when I got it I wasn't happy with the sharpness and it particularly showed with my prime lenses wide open, as the depth of field is so narrow. My fine tune is anything from -18 to -5 I seem to recall offhand. None of my five lenses are...

    Nikon D5100 or 7000

Bear in mind resale value as well - the 5100 is in the middle bracket of pro-sumer alongside the D90 and therefore I suspect values will plumet just like the D5000 did (I would know, I just sold one). The 7000 is seen as a much more serious camera and therefore I am betting it will hold its...

    Travel Tripod suggestions?

+1 for the Feisol. I've got the tripod linked to - it is very light, very simple and looks good too. From my experience much better than the equivalently priced Manfrotto or Giottos - it is just easier to work with and folds down much smaller (and yet extends to above head height for me, 6...

    D7000 + Lens

The 16-85 VRII Nikkor is a lovely lens and goes well with the D7k but isn't as quick as the 17-55. You can pick up a 16-8 for around £320 on here second hand. I always think 55mm isn't long enough for a walk about lens, or for some portrait work. I'd get the 16-85, 35mm f1.8 and the 85mm...

Nikon D3000 Upgrade and lens advice for travelling

Rocket blower, spare battery, plenty of spare memory cards (if you spread your photos across many cards, if you lose your camera you'll only lose some photos rather than all). If you love low light photography you might want to invest in a travel tripod but depends on what sort of...

Nikon D3000 Upgrade and lens advice for travelling

The D5k has fairly good low light performance but probably not enough to warrant the costs in upgrading (although you can get a second hand one for around £250). If you want really good low light performance you'll need something like a D7k but you wont get any change out of £700 for one of...

Getting black gloss paint off my bonnet :-(

Depending on the type of car it sounds like a new bonnet in teh right shade is the way forward. For a relatively common car it would probably be the cheapest way (save getting it off with abrasives....).

    not sure what lens

Definitely 35mm f1.8, a great lens and very cheap.

    D5100 or D7000

The 5100 is more difficult to use if you want to do cool stuff as well as you constantly have to search through menus to customise things. On the 7000 its all done using the buttons and control wheels and is SO much nicer. I went from a 5k to a 7k and won't look back. Plus the 7k has the...

    Jimmy Chin shoots Yosemite

Very cool - he had a D7000 but later had an EOS 5D I think?

    Nikon D7000 U1 & U2 settings

I set one for portrait mode, so spot metering/centre focussing and a reasonable ISO. The other is set to a "quick snap" setting just in case something amazing happens and I don't want to miss it - so highish ISO, AF-C, 3D focussing and area metering. Up to you really!

    need a tripod

I've got a Feisol carbon one from here: http://www.feisoluk.com/Tripods-Traveller-Tripods/c24_36/p142/CT-3441SB-Rapid---Traveller-Carbon-Fibre-Tripod/product_info.html Shipping was awesome (next day) and it is a thing of beauty. Ultra stable and very, very light. Highly recommended if...

Tamron 18-270 PZD or Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR

Maybe but to be honest the reviews are so good, if you need a telephoto for a good price that goes to 300, you'll rent the 70-300 for £50ish (which you won't get back) then go any buy one. My advice would be to go straight in for the kill, but that is my style with large purchases... if you...

    The essential Flip-Out, articulating screen...Discussion.

They would be useful if LiveView was any good. I've had a D5000 and I don't miss the articulated screen on my D7000 at all.
