    I hate cats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cat drove me crazy last night. It's got a rash of some sort on its neck so we have to apply cream to it and wrap a bandage around its neck to stop the cat scratching until it bleeds. The damn thing decided that it was going to sit next to my pillow all night trying to scratch through the...

    One for the electronics wizards

It seems that 433.92MHz is used by a lot of things, home automation systems, wireless alarms, wireless thermometers, the list seems to be endless. You probably found this in your searching but it's worth bringing up just in case...

Pig flu - are you worried?

I've just had flu, well I still have the tail end of it (no i'm not feeling curly), at no point did I wonder if I was going to die. Hundreds of thousands of people die from your regular common or garden seasonal flu, the number of deaths are nowhere near that yet. I'd bet that more people have...

Does this look legit? (UPDATE - LIGHTS CAME)

That would be my understanding too, the Ws is a measure of the energy stored in the flash's electronic components and the guide number is a measure of the light's intensity. You can change the guide number of a head a certain amount by using more/less efficient reflectors which can focus or...

Does this look legit? (UPDATE - LIGHTS CAME)

Hey Jordie, is the plug it comes with one that has 2 flat prongs parallel to each other? like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9a/A_plug.jpg/800px-A_plug.jpg Also does anyone know what the fitting is called for attaching modifiers? e.g. Bowens s-type, obviously it's...

    Friendly reminder: Remember to backup!!!

My computer got infected with a virus on Sunday, it basically replaced a whole lot of .exe files with the virus all over my computer destroying the originals in the process. Anyway after looking around the concensus was that the effort of removing the virus isn't worth it and to format and...

    Ghost story

I'm pretty sceptical of most things, mostly the people you have to pay to be told your future or talk to relatives from beyond the grave. But when it's just normal people who say they've seen something and telling others is of no benefit to them then you really do think there could be...

    Portrait lens

The thing you need to remember is that any lens can be used for portraits, what you have already will be fine for learning the ropes :) Any lens with a focal length over about ~50mm is traditionally preferred for portraits as you get less distortion that makes body parts look out of proportion.

New Toys Arrived: 135L & 2x Converter, some test shots. Image heavy!

Impressive! the teleconverters hardly affect the quality in your images. I've been thinking about the 135 for a while now and this doesn't help :p

Does this look legit? (UPDATE - LIGHTS CAME)

For less than £30 for a flash head you don't have much to lose. They could be good to do stuff where there is a risk of damaging them, better to knock over and smash a £30 head than one costing a few hundred quid. In fact I'm tempted to get some out of curiosity. Keep us posted and let us...

    What kit do you crave?...

I'm actually quite happy with my current gear. A 16/17-35/40 or a 100-400 would be nice but not something I really need. A set of studio lights would be nice too. I'd also like to start assembling some more primes. I'm not so naive to think that equipment will make me better anymore, it can...

Going price for a Canon 16-35 MkI?

I'm just back in the UK staying with my folks and have seen a mkI 16-35 for sale at what I thought was a reasonable price. It doesn't have a box, soft pouch or hood but the glass itself is fine, the zoom and focus rings are smooth and solid, I've taken a few shots with it and it doesn't seem...
