    Canon 35L vs Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art

I've had the Canon 35L for years. It's my favourite prime. It's pin sharp, produces beautiful colours, smooth bokeh and the AF is lightning fast, rarely misses a beat. I love the 35 focal length, much prefer it over the 50, so I use this lens a lot. Having said that, I have only heard good...

Sigma 24-70mm dg os 2.8 ART vs Canon

Aha, no I haven't seen this G2 version...silly me! I just had a look, certainly different to the other Tamrons. Seems it's similar price to the Sigma. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a closer look at this lens.

Sigma 24-70mm dg os 2.8 ART vs Canon

By far my most used lens is the Canon 24-70 2.8L (mki). I haven't upgraded to the mkii as I didn't see a enough difference to justify the cost. In any case the mki is built well and handles great, the one thing I would consider upgrading for is image stabilization! I heard there is an IS version...

    I think she's been conned

I wish someone had told me to go for the higher end model when I got my first dslr. It would have saved me money in the long run, rather than getting the beginner gear, outgrow it in 6 months then sell, loose money and buy the camera I should have bought from the start.

is the 7d really that bad?

Absolutely no issues with the 7D at all, I've been using it for nearly a year now. It's really responsive, quick to handle and has amazing build and image quality. I'm more than happy with everything it's got to offer and I don't see myself wanting to upgrade in the near future. It could be...

    New DSLR or Lens+kit

Have you thought about going a step further and getting a 7D, maybe second hand? It's better built, better ergonomics, has better focusing and metering than the 60D. I've upgraded from the 600D and my pictures improved, because of the quick and precise access to all the controls and the 100%...

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

I see what you mean. The image on my 7d's viewfinder is bigger and brighter than on my previous 600d camera. It definitely helps when setting up a shot, so I can see the benefit of having an even bigger and brighter viewfinder. It's a two way thing though, for me personally it's perhaps even...

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

Indeed, that was my original point. Someone mentioned earlier they prefered full frame because the viewfinder on them are bigger and better. Just wanted to clarify, that to my knowledge that's got nothing to do with the sensor size.

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

yes the actual image exposed on the sensor will be bigger as it's full frame. Relative to that the image in the viewfinder will be a specific amount, determend by the construction and size of the viewfinder itself, not the frame sensor size. So in the viewfinder of my 7d, I can see 100% of the...

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

The viewfinder on my crop frame 7d covers 100%. So that's got nothing to do with the sensor size as far as I can see.

    canon eos 600d

I started on the 600D as well. I can say it's a fantastic camera, I really loved it. It has great features and a bunch of auto settings to get you up and running quickly, though I'd advise to get into manual as soon as you can. The image quality is superb, on par with the 7D, which is what...

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

This might be a noob question, but what is the difference between the viewfinder on a crop body opposed to a full frame body?

Full Frame, far from critical to great landscape shots imo

I think better technology helps, but that argument never ends as you could go full frame and think you're on top of the world...until you discover medium format, etc, etc. Ultimately, the best shots will become great because of the artist and the creative mind controlling the technology to the...

    550d/60d

Really depends what you want it for! The 550d and 600D are more modern with better video capabilities. The 40 and 50D have overall better build quality and better ergonomics. I like bigger camera bodies myself! I've owned a 600D and although it's a great all around camera, I don't care much...

    Canon EOS 7D Owners Thread

Hi all, Got my brand new Canon 7d body yesterday. Upgraded from the 600d, which is a lovely camera and served me well in my first 6 months of learning the very basics of photography. I'm still a beginner though and have a lot to learn. My main lens is a Canon 24-70L, but I also enjoy...
