For me a NAS such as Synology provides better protection over a single ext HDD should it fail. With the NAS and multiple bays, there is better chance you recover. there are many features that come with the NAS, tools, external access, hosting webspace and more. However for a true backup you...
I recently cancelled with one.com as no longer needed to host. Never had an issue with them, using a number of services including hosting, ftp etc. Was quick and reliable for me. Was with them for 7yrs.
starting to sound like a sales rep now, but....
you have a number of options with synolgy - such as Clouds Station (by Synolgy) or OwnCloud, or bit torrent sync. Or you can have google drive or similar sync to the server.
For Windows OS you could try AeroFS etc
Not sure how it all works, but been trouble free since i installed, well over the 6 month mark now. I see what you are saying allowing BIOS to do the RAID - are you installing a RAID card also? I'm relying on synology as the main OS - but i think i read you may have VM's etc so the option you...
could be Windows10 upgrade auto-downloading somewhere? I agree with afasoas - WinDirStat will point you in the right direction... https://windirstat.info/

If you are going to be running Synology - not sure if it will read the built in RAID/BIOS setup? Synology have there own version of RAID "Synology Hybrid RAID" - which can be selected when you plug in the HDD's via the Synology GUI.
Hi Paul - completely agree, I have moved over from Canon where I had the 1000D, 18-55, and 55-250mm lenses. I should have probably mentioned on the first post, off to Florida in the summer, one of the reasons I'd prefer the one lens rather than swapping and changing around..
