Long standing member here - Q

Hello! I’ve been a long standing member since around 2008 and love reading through the wealth of knowledge and buying and selling many items of camera gear over the years. I was wondering why I don’t have access to the classifieds anymore? Many thanks Chris

Lens focal length / aperture for Car Stills

Thanks for your advice. I have now taken delivery of:- Sigma 85mm f1.4 Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 This should cover most bases, I like the compression I will get from the 85mm as long as I get the space to shoot!

Lens focal length / aperture for Car Stills

It's a constant 2.8 and has great reviews on Flickr for sharpness as well as bokeh quality.

Lens focal length / aperture for Car Stills

Great shots guys and thank you. You make a good point about the 2.8, to capture the whole car for certain shots I would be using a higher apature. Sounds like for a one lens killer kit the Tamron 2.8 28-75 would be perfect for my needs. To answer the question about what I was trying to...

Lens focal length / aperture for Car Stills

Hi, I have had a number of cameras and lenses but have been out of the game for years. My last was a Sony A7RII and various lenses, but have been using an iPhone 14 Pro Max for what I mainly shoot = cars (static, non motion). I am getting a bit fed but with the limitations of using a...

    Beginner iPhone

I did an iPhone challenge on Flickr and really enjoyed it. My 6 Plus is great. Especially for street or impromptu snaps.

Flicking through some old photos taken with the A7RII and quite like this even though it lost a lot of contrast being shot through a shiny glass cabinet. Press down to clamp by Chris McDonald, on Flickr

Mac OSX - cloning bootcamp windows installation

I don't waste space with partitions. I run mutiple servers and OS on VMware Fusion so they all run at the same time and I can access them all without disrupting the next.

    Shoulder strap.

Yes, but my thin leather strap which is perfect for my A7Rii would not be used on the Nikon with some heavy G glass....

    Shoulder strap.

I think it depends on the camera. A D810 with grip and a 24-70 would need a more heavyweight strap to an A7rii with a prime.

    Mac Pro 5.1?

I'm thinking about buying a 4,1 or 5,1 Mac Pro and flashing EFI to accept top end Westmere processors (like in 2010+ Mac Pros) which still seems to be top end of Geekbench. I currently rock a Mac Mini Server i7 which punches above its weight at Mac Pro level (9k) single processor. However I...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The only thing I use 1:1 for is to see if I nailed focus.

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Yes there is a lag in preview 1:1 - its due to the huge file sizes. A trade off of having such a high megapixel count (A7Rii). Its a trade off I can live with because most of my selection happens in Lightroom. Quick snap of the ground - again - using the articulating screen which is alien to a...

I've done this loads of times and Superduper has been the tool for the job.
