Thanks Guys, great comments. The contrast here was that it was rallying on a circuit and using a lot of circuit marshalls. Hence the rapid response to the guy when he sat down in the line of fire (under 30 seconds )
There have been a few accidents in recent years in rallying where members of the public and photographers were involved.
I recently attended the Neil Howard rally at Oulton Park.
As a race photographer I am aware of certain rules and always making sure you have an escape route. I saw this...

After looking at one again today I noticed that the screen was very reflective being a touch screen but also noticed the same problem with a macbook pro retina
I need to replace my ageing sony vaio 16.4 Laptop I use for editing on the move. its been a great workhorse but its getting to the point where I should replace it. I have decided I need a windows machine with 1920 by 1080 (full HD) screen.
I have been looking at a few and spotted this one today...
anybody else use the D800 for sports.
I use it for motorsport and Polo and I find it really very good but others seem to criticise and say its not really for this
I use a wide angle lens in museums etc. It puts you closer and tends to stop people getting between you and the subject. I also found this makes you less intrusive and less likely to annoy than having to stand back creating a gap where people hesitate to step in.
