    Bird photography - Nikon body

It just made me chuckle Ade - you have been blessed with Olympic standard sarcasm. This is another "what should I do?" thread and for once I thought I could offer something constructive. cheers, cw

    Bird photography - Nikon body

Hi Bill This may or may not help! I have a D3x - fast reliable focus but not ideal for wildlife at a distance as 24mp doesn't go far. D800 - mine has never had 100% reliable focus. It's been back to Nikon and went from utterly unreliable to a bit vague. It sometimes needs written notice to...

    Canon 600mm f4 (£8900) vs 300mm f2.8 + 2x (£4100) for Birds and BIF

Get the tool for the job, if you need 600 then buy a 600! I can't see the point in spending a small fortune on quality glass and then degrading your images by adding converters - especially stacking them.:exit: If weight is more of an issue than image quality then I'd seriously look at the...

Nikon D810, grey 'vs' UK stock

OK, so it really does come down to personal choice - I suspect opinion will remain somewhat polarised!

Nikon D810, grey 'vs' UK stock

It'll all end in tears the day the manufacturers decide to only supply parts to their official repair centers to repair official imports. Grey import warranties won't be worth pig's burp then. Just my 2c! cheers, cw

Nikon 300mm f4 and TC vs 80-400mm vrii

Hi Ian I have an 80-400 that stays on my D800 and have had some very good results photographing reds at Escot in Devon. Again, as Ingrid said, not wild but still challenging and it works well. If you're using the peanut butter method for cresties you may well find a tripod handy too. For...

    Nikon D810

"If you crop and throw away data the resulting IQ will be lower" To me that's a bit like saying "if you peel an orange you somehow affect the taste of the orange" and I just don't understand. However, neither do I care that much, so tra for now! cheers, cw

    Nikon D810

I still disagree with you Steven - you don't lose dynamic range by cropping - therefore the dx portion of a D8xx image isn't the same as the whole of an image from the D7000 - how can it be? cheers, cw

    nikon d600 vs d700

..............and yet strangely relevant to the OP's original question! cheers, cw

    nikon d600 vs d700

Here's a suggestion! D700s are a good used buy at the moment. Buy one and see how you get on - you'll struggle to lose much if it doesn't do what you want and you decide to sell it on. Just my 2c cheers, cw

    (new) Nikon 80 400mm f4.5/f5.6 VR2

Hi Bill I don't use my 80-400 for birding - it's actually my walkabout zoo lens - but if it helps you I have to say I'm very impressed with it. I have a 600 which stays on the tripod and a 400 2.8 which is pre-vr so not worth selling - much the same as your 600. I keep it for early morning...
