Does the 5d3 have a built in intervalometer or am I being a bit stupid not seeing that on the specs list?

Rode videomic is good but as you stated their is no way of getting rid of auto gain control so will still occasionally here the hissing. Id recommend a zoom h4n and sync it up with plural eyes (which also costs $149).

400mm for filming on a 1.6x crop body is not goon be any good for filming ! Got a 200mm prime and despite it being a lovely lens i hardly use it when filming.
