Luminar 2018... not ready for prime time...

Massive performance increases with this week's update! Much needed. Update: On further investigation - laggy sliders are still there for me but not quite as bad as before. Ah well.

    Capture One Pro 11 Released!

It's brilliant. I've upgraded for the first time since v8. P1 were good enough to extend their upgrade offer to v8 owners until the end of the months. Not bad value for £150. Been with Lightroom for the past few years and been happy with it but C1P is software that sings to me. Still buggy...

Luminar 2018... not ready for prime time...

Pretty much my findings too in terms of performance. I've used Luminar since day one of the original version and my main gripe has always been the lag when making real time changes with the sliders. Move a slider and wait a good two seconds to see your changes. Sometimes it's faster, other times...

    Alternatives to Lightroom?

Photo Ninja was very promising when it first appeared a few years ago then everything went silent from them after they stated a new version was on the horizon. That must be over two years ago now. I see they keep updating camera profiles.

    Picktorial for Mac

It's very poor in that regard. It looks great but when you delve under the hood you find things just don't work as well as something like Lightroom. Perhaps not a surprise given the relative size of the developers. It has some nice innovative features though.

    Bargain All Nik products free!

Most shots will look 'harsh' initially as the software dials up all the preset settings to max so you get a flavour. Dial it down. Your options are limitless. Tinker, tinker and tinker some more! Play around with it for a few days/weeks, read and watch the tutorials, read the cheap Ebay books...

    Bargain All Nik products free!

It's excellent. Here's the link to the official tutorials on Youtube. When Google aquired Nik, many of the Nik employees left to create MacPhun software. Also very good. Tonality is a fabulous piece of B&W conversion software as is Silver Efex Pro.

I think many saw this happening when Google acquired Nik a few years ago and slashed the purchase price. Google have got what they needed, such as the control point technology. I guess this is the end of Nik and we'll see no further development?

    Mpb site what a joke

I agree. It doesn't play nicely at all on my iPad 2 running iOS9. The menus pop up and disappear. When I can actually access the menus the selections are unresponsive. I've seen this kind of template used on other web sites and they don't work well on my iPad.

    Fuji x100

Thanks Adam. Lightroom and VSCO 06 (their quirkiest film pack) then into Colour Efex Pro solely for the contrast filters. Tonal Contrast in particular is a brilliant filter. I don't use Photoshop so I use plugins from Nik/Google and MacPhun. I find they really help to take some images beyond...

    Fuji x100

Very nice Ian. I think you've processed it right to the edge without going too far! Did you use Lightroom for sharpening?
