Gorillapod SLR Zoom - don't know what head to get?

Please let us know how you get on with it.. I have been contemplating getting one but have heard mixed reports regarding the stability etc and would be a bit wary of hnging my D200, battery grip, flash and 70-200mm VR off of it unless I was 100% sure ti would be up to it!!

    Travelling - What to take?

Thanks Jas I have ordered my 17-55mm, it should be here in the morning :) I'm not overly worried about the weight of the laptop. Firstly my Vaio only weighs 1.6kg and secondly I could leave it (secured) in the room during the day and just use it at night for transferring/processing of images...

    Travelling - What to take?

I guess the majority of the shots I take when on holiday are street pictures - people, buildings etc.. For examples, here's the shots I took in Hong Kong, Prague and New York. Interesting to hear that you have both the 17-55mm and 35-70mm..obviously you find the 17-35mm range more useful...

    Travelling - What to take?

That's reassuring, I may be able to get away with just the one lens! Did you find that you used the 70-300mm much or was the shorter range of the 17-85mm more useful? In terms of storage, I have an Epson P2000, but it only has 40gb, my laptop has 100gb. Also, if I'm away for that long, I...

    Travelling - What to take?

Thanks for the advice/comments guys :) I'll check into that a bit further, but I've never had problems before... I would secure them either in a safe or with something like this (does anyone know of a better/alternative product to this one? -...

    Travelling - What to take?

I will be walking around for most of each day, I would imagine. The usual sight-seeing stuff.. As you say, between destinations shouldn't be a problem, but I'd still like to keep as light as possible because of the planned train travel between some destinations (I hate lugging heavy bags...

    Travelling - What to take?

Thanks for the thoughts/comments so far guys/girls :) HIMUPNORTH - I want to have to think more about my shots this time, which is another reason for taking less, as you say. Steep - I hadn't considered that combination of lenses... thanks :) chrisiow - I was looking at the Gorillapod...

    Travelling - What to take?

I have decided that I want to see a bit more of the world and get some great photos in the process, so am planning on taking a trip around Europe for a month or 2! (I was thinking of going around the world, but I decided I couldn't fit all that I want to see into 2 months). This led me to...

    Nikkor: 70-200 f/2.8 VR or 80-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR?

I have the 70-200mm and use it with a 1.7x TC. I got the pair in Hong Kong for under £1000 all in. I have tried the 80-400mm out and it is not nearly as good a lens. The AF is so much more responsive ont he 70-200mm (although it tends to hunt a little bit more when you use a TC than if you...

Kate Moss to become the face of Nikon

All depends what industry you're in.. I did some work for a Music TV channel a while back and it was almost the norm..

    New tripod

All fair points.. I don't see it being a huge issue, just surprised me. All other ballheads I have seen/usedmounted the camera directly over the centre.. It doesn't seem to affect the stability of the tripod/head setup and I have managed decent panoramas hand-held, so it shouldn't pose too...
