ColorChecker - When to use for static lighting? Every shoot?

Haha yes, very thorough! Every little helps. Need to ensure the lab is using a calibrated monitor though I guess!

ColorChecker - When to use for static lighting? Every shoot?

Thanks all, really interesting replies. Largely aligns to what I was thinking: My setup is a ring flash, with 0 ambient. The only variable will be distance to subject, which is hopefully largely similar. Unsure if that brings much variation to colour balance. White balance in theory should be...

ColorChecker - When to use for static lighting? Every shoot?

Hi all, I am interested in starting to use a ColorChecker - possibly the passport or the nano variant. I only do macro photography (I am a dentist/dental photographer). The shots are with zero ambient light (F40 and 1/250th shutter) and a ring flash. Therefore all lighting is from just the...

Dental implants - any words of wisdom (see what I did there..?)

There's a few questions to ask yourself regarding implants: What was the original reason of the loss of teeth? Do you have any active gum disease? I don't know your specific details, but it's rare that the loss of a large number of teeth is caused by a single event or traumatic event alone. The...

Do You Buy Nurofen or Generic-Brand Ibuprofen?

If you look at ANY medication box it will have a 'PL' number. This is the identifier for any particular medication's active ingredient. If any medication packaging has the same PL number i.e. paracetemols, ibuprofens etc. then they will literally have identical active ingredients. So any...

    Apple watch worth it?

Just got one and I must say I think they're superb! I am a huge Apple fan admittedly. It really depends on how you want to view it. If you think it is a 'iPhone' on your wrist, it isn't, so forget it. The 3rd party apps you can get for it are slow, so not worth it. The only way that it's...

    Dashcam

http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/2/24/using-a-mobius-camera-and-some-accessories-to-make-my-ideal.html Mobius + lens extension can be rehoused and made nearly completely stealthy if required...does requiring to make a separate custom casing though! But invisible if you can rehouse in the rain...

Going for a walk - how much gear do you carry?

No tripod needed (unless you're doing it in conditions which would require tripods anyway) - just use bracketting with +2 stops (or how many stops you want to use for the grad). Most cameras have seriously quick FPS these days on high mode that the .1-.2 second lapse is negligble.!

Going for a walk - how much gear do you carry?

My 'holiday' landscape setup - Micro 4/3rds Body and Olympus 9-18 ... the lightness is unreal! iPhone for the rest. Completely agree with what everyone says about filters not being necessary - the only ones if you absolutely must are polarisers and a 10 stop ND (limited uses most photos)...

Have you ever used flash for landscape photography?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/26050283@N02/4371070592/ I took this about 6 years ago - very primitive light painting when I was just getting started!

    A cure for GAS

I feel no-one has rightly complimented you on your 600mm (which may have been more of the purpose of the thread) ...so I will say it looks awesome. And you've gotta love the stubby! Looks just so neat! What sort of shots do you use the 600mm for?

Used Nikon - Might as well buy Grey as UK stock?

I was under the impression that it was a bit like Apple - just don't mention that there's an owner change - that if the serial was registered for 2 years (or you had a receipt) then they wouldn't ask questions for repairs...I've not known it to happen (but would welcome any stories of anyone...
