I use a wee device called a pvr rocket. You can plug a microphone into it and it records everything on the screen. One HUGE benefit of this device is that there is absolutely no 'lag' when recording.
It may be overkill as mine is mainly used to record high definition gaming.
Aperture isn't going to be available to buy soon.. I received an email a couple of weeks ago saying it was being changed for the new 'photos' which is really plain!
Agree with a cheap ND first.. I bought one and have been 'playing' but not managed anything worthy of posting up yet! It takes some time to get right, but I'm really new and still learning something every time I get the camera out...
I have aperture, but currently it is a bit 'flakey' and I thought that I had lost about 5k of photo's as some were there, but the rest had vanished.. I was liking it until that point!

Thanks for the advice... I am coming to the conclusion that allowing iPhoto to serve me, used to work when all I used was an iPhone, but will no doubt bite me in the butt very soon now that I am importing from the DSLR..
Methinks a bit of youtube searching is in order!
Thanks for the update.. I was getting the feeling that the iPhoto folder is 'billy no mates'
I like that iPhoto will appear on the iPad, iPone etc without having to mess about. But I suppose if I tip my idea on its head.. load ALL into lightroom, then subjectively export the ones I want into...
I can't seem to find an answer so I am erring to wards no, but does anyone know how to open images stored in iPhoto directly within Lightroom without having to export it first.
Hopefully it is possible, or else I will have to review my storage procedures..
Or what is normal practice for Mac...
Guys, at this early stage of my you photographic career, Any and All knowledge is appreciated. :-)
Perhaps I didn't word the question as succinctly as it should have been...
Thanks again to you both as it has certainly helped my understanding.
Thanks again.. I don't yet have the 2.8 (it's a toss up between) but I suppose I could work with the 17-85 for a few weeks to see if 24 would be sufficiently wide for my needs... Now that I know that 24 on the EF-S is the same 24 on the 24-105 etc, I can get an accurate picture.. (Pardon the pun!)
I have a 50mm 1:1.4 at the moment (This I like!) and the usual kit lens, 18-55 EFS the 17-85 EFS Macro.
I am looking at the 24-105 L f/4 if I can ever find one that I can afford.. I'm not into the 2k bracket yet!
Have looked at the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 but for about the same money I 'believe' I...
Thanks for the swift reply!!!.. So in essence a 50mm EF and 50m EF-S will give the same 'size' picture on a crop sensor camera.. Well that makes choosing lenses a bit easier! I just need to make the adjustment (in my head!) for use depending on what I really want on the crop sensor..
Really...
