    Barn Owl Numbers.

Where I live in Essex, we have loads of tawnys and have seen barn owls, but not for a couple of years now. Habitat (medieval church/spire and 2 medieval wooden barns etc) support them and loads of prey (and competition - tawnys, kestrels, buzzards, kites etc) but also loads of rats. We only see...

    Walrus, Scarborough

Freya? that was sighted in Shetland and Denmark but was eventually shot by the Norwegian authorities due to its "risk to human life" in the Oslofjord.

    So i want a manual film camera… FM2?

Nice! I've got a couple of OM10s which I fondle from time to time (one has a motor drive attachment o_O ), lenses include the usual Zuiko 50 f1.8 and 28 f2.8 and a Sigma 28-70 zoom. Both still work and I occasionally waste a roll of film through them. The first OM10 replaced a Praktica MTL3...

    Photography insurance

I've always self-insured for kit (apart from kids' musical instruments for trips/theft) and presume this question is about kit as opposed to PL/PI insurance for professional cover?

Carrying your camera when wearing a rucksack

Another vote for BlackRapid here, Sport in my case, very comfortable (y) they also do a female-form version as seen in the link that Jak posted above, which looks like it spreads the weight over the shoulder socket rather than pulling on the collar bone and trapezius muscle at the back (and is...

    Goodwood FOS 2022 questions

Here's a set of snaps I took at the 2012 event, most of the track shots were at Molecombe on the outside of the bend with the close-ups in the queueing area before the start. The statics were in the paddock (obvs). https://flic.kr/s/aHsjAkqqSd When my boys were young (late 90s) we visited...

    Travel tripod

Manfrotto Befree on Amazon at £139? I have one and have found it surprisingly solid (and it's easier to carry than my 055XDB!). Twist action legs, mine's the older "Amazon Choice" offering with clip legs.

    70-200MM F4 L lens blurry/soft images

This image was taken at a distance of about 20 ft, the depth of field is tiny View: https://flic.kr/p/2kTzdCQ You've mentioned rocks at 50m, that's a long way away relatively speaking and if there's any front or back focusing issues with your kit you'll have issues. What camera body are you...

    70-200MM F4 L lens blurry/soft images

Doing any of what you're reporting at f4 isn't really going to get the result you're looking for. The 70-200 is good for landscapes but you'd need to stop it down. Close up the 70-200 is great at f4... View: https://flic.kr/p/H2FDyH but for landscapes best to stop down, as described here...

    How much RAM?

32Gb here too. What's almost as important is having an SSD, the read/write times are so much faster than the old 5,400 and 7,200 multiplate hard drives. I used to do a fair bit of video rendering at work a few years ago and short "how-to" videos (3.4 mins in length) would take hours to render on...

    Canon 300mm f/2.8 IS L

With that zone focus the camera did its best and hit the bit at the front i.e. the nose. Try spot or single point focus for the eyes (not easy on moving targets). Nothing wrong with the lens (y)

How do I show scale in a photo ?

This one has people and, I think, would have given a sense of scale even if they weren't there View: https://flic.kr/p/294gtty
