umm, ok thanks. I think that the manual focus 1.8 will be the best bet, for £75 i'll just have to deal with the manual focus. haha

hey, yes im from Great Wyrley, just next to cannock. Right.... I'm new to this so may need some help, what is the difference between the 1.4 and the 1.8? I think from what you just said the 1.8 is for me, but if you could explain that would be ace. :)

thankyou for your replies, i usually use manual focus anyway at the moment, i find that using the manual focus gave me more of a challenge. Blapto I'm shooting alot of portrait shots at the moment, so if you could suggest a best fixed range, i do shoot alot at 50mm (or in that general area)

how are you finding the sigma lens?

the manual focus on the 18-55mm lens dosn't seen as good as the focus on a fix 50mm (the defenition seemed much better more crisp) Then again im very new to this and may just not be spending enough time adjustion. im not too bothered about the autofocus to be honest. do sigma do a cheaper...

can anyone shed some light on this lens or something that is similar to it? its for my nikon D60, I really want one. anyone got any advise, its mainly portrait shots i want to do and my standard kit lens isnt quite getting what im after.
