I heard somewhere that the 6D uses the same battery as the 60D, is this true? As I already have spares for my current 60D. If the battery grip fit too, that'd be even more of a bonus!

Maybe invest in a telephoto lens if you're a little worried about confrontations? Generally I find people are quite nice as long as you aren't forcing you're camera in their faces.
