After much deliberation I bought the canon s100. Very compact, has a proffesional feel to the amount of manual intervention you have and I love the lens ring. It doesn't look thvtewtest but it's very functional.
I did consider the x10 but went ultimately for the more compact of the two.
So...
I'm bias, just swapped my Panasonic tz30 for a canon s100 and I feel much happier. A lot of other brands do many things reasonably well but the canon focuses on just taking good pictures.
I particularly like the front ring that allows you to programme to either focus manually, shutter speed...
One other camera to throw into the group, canon s100. Apparently this has a larger sensor and very good PQ.
any thoughts on this particular camera?

This is the dilemma? It's looking like the only way forward is a camera with separate lens which is what I tried to get away from.
Perhaps the more compact size could make it viable though.
Does anyone have experience with the Panasonic GF3 and he does it compare.
He wide angle are the end...
I owned a cann 60d dslr for a year and took lots of good landscape pictures using a 10-24 lens. This is my favourite type of photography.
However, the last year saw little use of the camera and when I did go out the burden of lugging a camera bag and my son in tow mean it started gathering...
i was with Plusnet for 3 years and never had a single problem. speeds were good, no disconnections, the only issue was they were not the cheapest.
I eventually changed to TalkTalk as they offered a better price for the same service.
Problem was, they made a mistake and the proper tariff was in...
If it had been cheaper that would be something.
I was promised a contract of just under £25.
i have been with talk talk for 3 months and payed a minimum of £60 per month since starting and my calls have only been £5 a month of that fee.
the whole thing is not even funny its so bad.
I used...
Thought id rant on here as I just finished spending over 2 hours on the phone to talktalk without any resolve whats so ever.
To cut a long story shorter,
three months ago I rang talktalk and asked what broadband/phone package they could do for me.
They offered something called 'essential'...
The frustrating thing is there seems to be no alternative. For me and many others im sure, the distance to work is too far to travel on foot or by cycle and public transport is just as expensive as driving your car and takes twice as long.
The so called green & friendly options have not really...
Is it just me or has knowone noticed the increase in petrol prices lately.
I understand the new VAT rate was going to increase from today but it has already raised around 5p per litre in the last 2 weeks around gloucestershire before the additional VAT 3.5p went on today.
How much more must we...
For portrait pictures only the 50mm or 85mm will do. I also have the 24-105 which is a great lens but does not have the important f1.4/1.8 of the primes.
also the PQ is better from the primes than the 24-105.
For the cost of either of these primes, there is really no decision.
Buy either and...
I recently aquired a 60D. I had a 40D before. Although I have not used it in anger yet, first impressions are good.
I do get the hold up on where its placed in the Canon range.
If Im honest, the 40D/50D seemed to look more of a proffesional camera but I think that is mainly down to the flip...
