    waterfalls

Here is an official definition. By the way, it's not a rant. I just like to be correct when I can. The main components of a waterfall are water and a drop in height. The way that the drop in height occurs provides the shape or style to the waterfall, some are cascades, or a series of steps...

    waterfalls

Just a technicality, I know, but a waterfall has to leave the ground and travel through the air without touching anything, it has to free fall, if you like. If it falls down the hill side then it is a cascade. Pedantic, I know, but I just thought I would mention it.

A company wishes to use one of my images

Giving work away will devalue the work of every photographer in the future. It is hard enough to get paid work as it is. Digitisation has seen the value of images tumble and the abuse of copyright increase dramatically. We need to protect our work and our income from this piracy. If you give...

    Scratched lens - price off?

Not a discount but a refund, surely. What use is a lens with a scratch on it, it will only cause flare.

    B&B in Bamburgh area

There is a hotel called Purdys just on the A1 at the end of the road that leads to Bambrough castle. The price is reasonable. Last time we went there they only had a room for one night and we wanted two, so they upgraded us to the on site cottage at no extra cost. They made it sound as though we...

    Help with studio photography

Don't forget that DOF is reduced the nearer you are to your subject, F8 is not the same at four feet as it is in a landscape photograph. I suffer the same problems that you do in my small studio. If you are in a large room why not move the lights back away from the subject. That way less light...

So, it's a nice sunny Sunday morning and I am up at 8' O clock. The Dronfield 10K road race starts at 10.00, I have ages, right. I have breakfast, shower and get dressed, still one hour to go. I have already established my vantage point and have been waiting for one month to shoot this scene...

    First child photo shoot!

Light the set in a general manner, 2 on the background and 2 on the subject at 45 deg. This will allow the child to move around the set and you can track her without worrying about lighting. Kids of 6 do not sit around for long and get bored easily, so move from one pose to another quickly or...
