Even though the different chargers have the same specification doesn't mean that the software used inside is the same...
The new battery is clearly built differently than the older one (as stated by Canon) and by that I'm sure there are different methods to charge the battery.
If you still have...
Well there got to be some difference...
This is stated at the Canon CPN site, under "The EOS-1D X explained":
Enhanced battery
For enhanced power performance, the LP-E4 battery has been redesigned and is named as the LP-E4N.
The inside of the battery now uses a larger number of smaller cells...

Both valid reasons.
I don't think we will ever get the full story.
Looks like Canon have struggled to get them ready for the market in time for these big sports events.

The reason why...

Two resent comments I have seen over here
- A Photo magazine editor here in Sweden has been told by Canon he will receive his production body mid June
- A sport shooter has received a preproduction unit as a loan and was told his production units would be delivered to him when he is at the...
According to the 1DX manual the following applies:
"The camera can synchronize with non-Canon compact flash units at 1/250 sec. and slower speeds. With large studio flash units, since the flash duration is longer than compact flash units, set the sync speed within 1/125 sec. to 1/30 sec. ..."
