I would do either what Pete says above or use 2 CDs. You could always try a reduction in size of the images in Photoshop, do a batch orgaise thing, for example save them as 11 quality not 12 or make them a bit smaller. Do 30 at a time or something, make sure you keep the originals thou Also...

Same, takes a few mins to look at the JPEG and you can see what shot if any you don't need, delete them then work on the ones you do. I shoot the smallest JPEG i can.

You could try looking on flickr at shots taken from where you going and see what lens they used perhaps? a lot of places can be funny about tripods sadly, health and safty issues they have, hope you get some decent shots either way

you could try getting a bag of those small silica packs that absorb moisture? them little things you find in shoes...etc when you get them new, that might help. When i go out in the real cold i also tend to put my camera in the boot but not inside anything, making sure of course its not going to...
