    What manfrotto don't tell you

Wouldn't be pretty, but attach one of these http://www.manfrotto.co.uk/tripod-adapter-3-8-to-1-4 to a 3/8" thread on the QR plate and then attach the lens to the 1/4" thread on top - just a thought

    Sorry, another tripod thread

It's been a while since i've been on the forum and i'm hoping to get a bit of tripod advice. I'm looking for a new tripod primarily for use with long lens, probably a Sigma 300 2.8 on a D600 sometimes with a 2 x converter. Now I think i've got my head around tripods and understand that...

    Good TripodHead

certainly vouch for the Manfrotto 410 or 405 geared heads - great for control but heavy. Surprised you're Giottos isn't stable, i've used one of those with some big kit for wildlife and it was rocksteady. TBH either the 1300 or 1311 -652 is what i would recommend as a good all round head that...

3lt eddie evolution 2 carbon tripod

I saw the 3LT stuff at Focus last year, and really the only think that stood out from the raft of other brands out there was the 'funky' name and marketing. The product was OK, but so is a lot of other kit in the market - like everything, likes and dislikes are subjective.

LTD Edition Carbon Tripods Manfrotto vs Giottos

Not sure either of these are pretending to be something they're not. They will both do a job of supporting your camera but with compromises - they won't be uber stable (although you can ballast the Giottos), not tall, don't offer horizontal column features - but they are quite light. And if...

    Tripod dilemma

ah Grasshopper Also don't discount the larger Giottos tripods. The 9361B seems to get good reviews and is their equivalent to the Manfrotto 055XPROB (which I have). Head wise, if you're looking for one head to do both landscape and wildlife I would suggest a ball head, and another Giottos...

    3 legged thing tripods

Giottos.. only Vitruvian goes that small and reviews have put me off Hi IanCD, i'm curious as to what has put you off the Giottos. I've had a 8255 for about 18 months and had no problems with it at all. It doesn't replace my heavier tripod for those times i don't have to walk far but on those...

Vietnam to Cambodia cycle with camera - portrait tips needed!!!

Hi Dan Sounds like a great trip. I cycled in Cambodia last year and Thailand and Laos the year before and the best advice I can give is to make sure that people are happy for you to take their photograph. Whilst they are incredibly friendly people, they don't always like having a camera...

Tripod Problem Dilema - Advice Please

Hi Origin I would have thought the supplier should be able to sort the problem - but failing that why not contact the distributor and see if they can help. It makes no sense that you should have to buy a new head at all. http://www.giottos-tripods.co.uk/index.php?page=contact

    Tripod and head around £150

A lot depends on what you want to put on top of the tripod and how tall you are. The Manfrotto 190 is still quite a short tripod so might find yourself still having to stoop. I saw one of these the other day - someone out shooting with it and I was really impressed...

ND Filter Turns My Photos Red :-(

Using a Neutral Density filter - especially 6stops or more, will usually result in a warm cast - but certainly not to the extent of the OP's image. Due to the time the sensor is subject to the light, Infra Red that is not visible to the human eye will effect the image. Yes there are IR...

    Redsnapper Head

Why not give them a call and see what they can do - no harm

    Redsnapper Head

Surely if the head was damaged in transit the shop you purchased it from will be able to replace or at least repair it - I wouldn't go buying a new one just yet. Contact the shop you bought the tripod and head from, if that doesn't work contact Giotto's - here's the number off their website...

    Small bag for mountaineering

How about one of these, they have a drawcord system in the camera compartment that holds you camera securely http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~productID~9465~categoryid~157.html

Giottos MH631 Quick Release Plate Adapter

I'm using one of these on a monopod - it matches the platform used on my giottos ball head, the base part of the adapter has both a 1/4" and 3/8" female thread. it is also supplied with a removeable 3/8" male thread - i didn't need this, and it's easy to just take out
