sheepskin rugs? They do them in different colours in Ikea.
Try not to go overboard on the props - I sell more photos of naked babies on a white fluffy blanket than anything else! Also remember to get close-ups of the little details like eye lashes, fingers and toes.
The coffeeshop action doesn't really do anything to change the skin tone. Try googling tutorials on CMYK values for newborn skin, that teach you how to change the skin tones using curves. And, as Ryan says, use a grey card as a starting point. Since I started doing this I no longer use any...
