I moved from the Canon 75-300 to the 70-300 IS. I find it fine for most situations and the IS is handy especially as you can pan with mode 2 selected. Trouble is I have hired a couple of L series for some events, and you can certainly see the difference, as the 70-300 just isn't fast enough...

When I open DPP, each RAW file has a little image of a camera at the bottom left hand corner, and RAW written beneath it, stating that the photo is a RAW file. The only time I have a greyed out RAW tool palette is when there are no RAW files on display, just jpg's. Bob

I had a reverse concern. I bought a 17-85 IS and thought the IS wasn't working because it was so quiet compared to my 70 -300 IS:). But comparing pictures off and on I was happy. Bob
